Little preview into our spring show, K-ON!
Guess I’ll use this post to explain how it’ll be released. We will do 4:3 episodes when they come out. And then 3 weeks later, we will re-encode it to 16:9. What resolution we are doing it in, I’m still undecided. Vote in here to let me know what you prefer. Poll hijacked~ ^.^
Then, if I am willing to put in the extra time, we’ll do the DVD versions.
I’m still undecided whether I’d do XviD for both releases, XviD for WS only, or no XviD at all, replaced with mp4.
Going to be a fun show! May run two seasons due to the time slot it’s in, but I don’t know. Either way, I look forward to it, and I hope you’ll support us!
Also, just to confirm. Our shows for next season are K-ON!, Queen’s Blade, and Asura Cryin`. We also will do DC IF 2, To Love Ru OVA 1, and maybe an additional OVA release.

I hope you don’t mind my voicing opinion, and will gladly accept whatever you decide, but I would be really grateful if you considered releasing in Xvid. I think you guys are awsome for providing an option in formats in the first place, and always prefer your subs.
Dunno much about 16:9 and 4:3 difference, but I really have had no trouble with neather. Ofcourse widescreen works really well, but 4:3:s can be streched quite nicely. So eather one is fine with atleast me. Using widescreen telly to watch my subs tough 😛

I am personaly using mencoder on linux so cant test it 😛
4:3 is nothing compared to 16:9/10 /=or
they scene is bigger , that’s normal . stretching is nice to but it’s not the same
Question:
Why not just do h264 for both large and small resolutions? It’s not as though people can’t live without XviD (it’s my understanding you’re making the change to mp4 because of this fact), and the file sizes would be smaller still, granted you know what you’re doing. =P
Just a thought.
That is, h264 in .mkv format, just in case I was unclear. Basically, the same format for both.

No, we will not sub what you ask us to. We already told you what we’re subbing.
not sure what the point of the poll was. both are 16:9 resolutions. what should really matter is what the actual source resolution is. you don’t want to shrink the resolution since you’re losing video quality, but stretching it out (upscaling) doesnt increase video quality either (but might increase file size?). well, higher resolution might be better than smaller in any case…

after seeing this video, I am sure, that I will never watch this anime… anime like Zettai Shogeki is not my favourite and the only thing is: show breasts in battle as much as you can (every attack is not supposed to be harmfull but it just destroy cloths.. wtf???:X)… K-ON! sounds promising.
btw. since I can do nothing about what will chihiro do and what you guys watch, i can just whine about your mentality and age :O. If you like breasts, go and watch hentai it’s basically the same except for sex.
using mp4 and xvid just makes the files compatible with dvd players, mobile devices and game consoles. Some ppl just prefer watching their movies from their tv if bossible, and operation to get hd-tv connected to pc can be challenging if you know nothing about computers
So mp4 and avi are more or less and act to support combatibility.
it is unfortunate that mkv only plays well in computers(cccp or restricted extras(linux)) and few media players. But lets hope that atleast microsoft and sony will get their lazy asses up and give us some mkv support.

See, .mkv support isn’t an issue for me. I only prefer .avi because I like the thumbnails, but because I have mkvmerge on my computer I can just change the container.
I’m just hoping that the .mp4 won’t prove to be an issue for my current setup (no I don’t use VLC), but I could be just worrying for nothing since I’ve never used a file in .mp4 format. It really all just boils down to the simple container, right?

not trying to be “mod” here but still its nicer to keep keep thing on-topic.
As for widescreen it sure does look better and removes the need to adjust the image. So it is basicly better for me. But as I am using a 32″ HD-tv as a monitor I cant really say what ppl who use pc 4:3 monitors think about this. Widescreen monitors are gaining popularity but many still use normal ones. As its not HD image the difference isnt that big so both are fine with me.
For HD 16:9 is a must :3

Ecchi is usually funny, while hentai is almost always about raping and hurting others….
And it usually have a story that is deeper then sex-oriented ones, where everything goes to one thing….

Looks like MY kind of show. Love slice of life. Can’t say I’m a kyoani slice of life fan after watching Lucky Star, but since K-on is just cute girls doing cute things in a way without any real otaku pandering, I’m all for it.

Hey good news to hear your subbing these shows, nearly all of them look quite interesting to say the least hahaha. Hope you will be able to use AT-X as raw’s because I just heard that they are going to run Queen’s blade completely uncensored, or at least so far, a source for it, http://www.sankakucomplex.com/2009/03/28/queens-blade-airs-uncensored/ don’t quite know if you allow sankaku linkage but that is where I heard it from.

Agreed… I don’t mind “soft ecchi” like in, as you said, asu no yoichi or rosario… but I hate this “nearly-hentai type of ecchi”. If you want to see some boobs call your girlfriend and don’t watch anime OMFG. Anyway, hentai is really mostly about rape rape rape and I can’t stand it and I don’t watch it. I was wondering if Zettai shogeki would be a good anime without “get naked” fights which really disgusted me and that’s why I dropped it.

The bouncing boobs and panties are part of fan-service and not ecchi. Queen’s Blade won’t even be able to light a candle next to Kanokon, now that is nearly hentai. Good show too lots of fan-service, ecchi, nudity, and some action. Something you might wanna stay away from. You haven’t watched enough hentai to only label it as rape. Maybe all the hentai you have come across just happened to be rape.
I will reserve judgement until I have watched a few episodes but K-ON seems rather reminiscent of Clannad with the ‘save the dying club’ plotline and presumably the softcore drama (lol). I hope this series stays true to whatever genre it shoots for and not try to include small bits of various other genres as Asu no Yoichi did.
Is there any love interest in K-ON!, or is it just cute girls running around?

@nitrowii I did the same, its kinda sad they did that. For Coalguys to go bonkers like that over a 30 second preview is kinda pathetic. They’re all about the “competition” they’ve got for K-ON, since its the only show they’re doing. Well, have fun Coalguys, its going to be a one sided competition. lol.
