Dance in the Vampire
Bund Notes

So we’ve decided to do a few different things with Vampire Bund. Since it’s SHAFT (i.e. typesetting hell) and there are those that hate TL notes in the video, I’ve decided to do them here. Plus, I can be so much more verbose this way.

One other thing I’d like to mention is that I used the names from the manga (licensed and released by Seven Seas Entertainment), so if you watched the original SFW’s released and then saw that practically all the names changed, that’s why.

 
Episode 1 notes:
 

• 2:09 – Astraea is an actual Greek goddess, who’s actually symbolized by a scale. Also, the constellation associated with her is Virgo, and her scales are (not surprisingly) Libra…

 

• 3:59 – Tamaki Nozomu is the actual mangaka for Vampire Bund. I’m too lazy to go verify if he did the actual voice, but he probably did since he got the cameo after all. Oh, and maybe you can rage at him, because who knows if this ep was his idea.

 

• 7:40 – Dollar Crisis mentioned here could actually be one of two things. It either refers to the event in the manga (which isn’t really named per se) or it’s a pot shot at the recent financial crisis that originated in the U.S. Take your pick. Could be both actually. Anyway, I’ll see how this show goes and maybe I’ll give you the rest of the details of the event in the manga if they don’t actually go into it.

 

• 11:22 – Veratos deserves special mention (and not because the gif of her boobs bouncing spread probably within seconds of this show airing, see around 16:13). In the manga, that’s her long spelling, except here, they pronounced it slightly differently than what you would think from the spelling. I could be wrong and they could have made up some last name but… meh… Note that Vera is her normal address.

 

• 13:33 – Watanabe no Tsuna was a (supposedly) real samurai in Japan. His exploits, however, are really of the myth/lore/whatever kind. Another special mention is that the character in Otogizoushi is the one and the same. The Demon of Rashoumon Gate is one of his many stories and I leave it to you to wiki it or whatever.

 

• 15:56 – The Royal Family, to be honest, is never used in the manga. In fact, the manga doesn’t go too much into the whole vampire society tree etiher. So it may be an explanation made up for the anime.

 

• 19:25 – Wolf seems to be a new nickname in the anime. I don’t think she ever calls him that in the manga (well, first 2 volumes at least). Anyway, his full first name is Wolfgang. That’s all I wanted to say.

 

• 20:18 – Mina Tepes shares the surname of Vlad Tepes (a.k.a. Vlad the Impaler), who was the ruler of Wallachia (which is part of modern day Romania, although no one calls it Wallachia now) and is commonly associated with vampires. Mina could be a reference to Wilhelmina Murray of Bram Stoker’s famous Dracula novel.

 

• 21:28 – Bund actually has two meanings here. One is based on the German word, which means “association” or “league”. The other is the physical kind, which is basically an embankment. The Vampire Bund happens to be both.

 

• 23:15 – Dance with the Vampire Maid is named after the 4-koma comedy portion of the manga (of the same name) at the end of each volume, which mainly stars Nella, Nelly, and Nero and their disapproval regarding Akira.

 
-Nazo
