It’s a CR edit based on the tl of the visual novel (we got a freak here who knows that VN from A to Z) and tlcd.
I’m not freak gdi, just huge fan of the VN. Got too deep stories. Also I promised that we’ll do Grisaia no Kajitsu anime one year ago and here we are!

Is something wrong on my end or is the video supposed to be 1280×544 pixels?
It is 2.35:1, so yes, but this resolution is considered as HD and often used in American BDs which are HD and this is like 720p, just instead of 720 there is 544 horizontal, but the same data is stored.
Should have encoded to 1440×612, that way you’d have at least almost as much pixels as “true” 720p.
Nope, we didn’t have time to provide a higher resolution encode yet, but it’ll happen.

1280 x 544 is NOT 1280 x 720, and loses about 225,280 pixels compared to 1280×720.
1280 x 544 is not a supported blu-ray or DVD video resolution. Only 4:3 and 16:9 are acceptable official aspect ratios for blu-ray videos. the aspect ratio of 2.35:1 has been obsolete since the 1970. Where are you obtaining these american blu-ray video disks? How are you even playing them on licensed blu-ray players?
Down scaling to a broadcast safe, more current, and standardized aspect ratio and resolution would have been a acceptable alternative. So would labeling your release “1280x544p24” to let people know that it isn’t really 720p before downloading.

I wonder if it’s really the studio that’s done the 2.35:1 aspect ratio, given how the releases for Grisaia thus far appear to have cropped some things. Like the station logo. You can see this a few seconds into Episode 3, the Anime+ logo is clearly cropped. The studio would not be able to do that. It seems possible that Chihiro did this cropping themselves (I doubt it though, they’d have no reason to), or the raws they’re working with are already truncated to begin with (more likely in my mind).
Any way you guys can upload just the subtitles? I need my 4K and I don’t think any subbers are going to upload those subbed anytime soon.
