Chihiro – Winter and Beyond

So, I’m guessing you’d like to know what we are planning for the winter. To be quite honest, we are not particularly sure about it ourselves. It’s not the shows that we are undecided on, it’s more how many we should take on and how we should do them.

The first option is to take on a much more limited amount of projects. In this case, the number would be three. We would work on those all to our hardest and get them out with full quality, hopefully in under 24 hours. Well, this would not include Zettai Karen Children, since that is reliant on Chinese subs, but the quality on ZKC would improve in this option.

The second option is to take on an amount of projects similar to the summer. This would be five shows, and we would do our best effort to get them out as quickly as possible, but with more shows comes less support on individual shows. It would be more focus on speed and less on quality, although we WILL be making efforts to improve quality with either option.

I would like some feedback on this. Please note that no decision will be made just on a poll and/or feedback, but feedback definitely does help.

Please vote in the poll below and leave comments on the website.

Well I really like Chihiro subs. I prefer them, so I’d like more and more shows ๐Ÿ˜› with good quality even if I have to wait few days for them.

btw. what about Chaos Head? R u going to do rest episodes or should I download episodes released by other group.

p.s. sorry for my english :p

  • Vlaeghe

    Miros…

your comment is exactly the reason why I would like chihiro to focus on 3 animes (preferably all ones that I like too, lol:P)…

You ask about chaos;head… and than wonder whether you should download from other groups? Why is that?… are the speed + quality not fast enough? ๐Ÿ˜›

3 animes covered by chihiro will be fine… On the other hand… I wouldn’t mind if you guys made 3 animes your main focus point, and perhaps add 2 other animes as ‘lesser’ additions incase some animes haven’t been picked up by any other group yet. And lesser additions would mean that you guys sub it, but that it’s like at the bottom of the to do list, and often delayed at that.

But the jist of it is: 3 anime + speed + quality is always better than 5 animes + “speed” + lesser quality.

  • ObrokenO

Definitely quality and the votes are rolling over it to ^_^ Speed is nice but I think the majority of people prefer quality. I never really understood why speed and quality became the position for groups quota. I prefer to subs to be proofread and Quality checked.

When you rush a sub you mess up and make so many errors and that pretty much leads up to doing a v2. Thats more time going back just to fix something that could have bin right the first time. Well I voted woooh!!!!

  • z n 1

i think you should do three but pick out ones you wanna do and we vote on the three we wanna see.

  • Kanaka

Vlaeghe and ObrokenO sum it up pretty well. There are many other “decent” fansubbing groups out there, and I’m sure they’ll pick up shows that you may not cover. I would prefer the group to enjoy the series they’re working on and do a damn great job at it, rather than being pressed for a deadline and causing unnecessary stress.

If it were me, I’d say pick 3 series that you really MUST DO. Say down the road a bit and a show turned out to be fairly interesting and no other group picks it up; you turn out to be doing great on time and everything’s going so smooth and perfect that you might just be able to pick up another show or two… then and only then would I consider picking up another series or two with absolutely no pressure/obligation to have this new addition done to the degree the primary shows are being done at. Just a thought ๐Ÿ™‚

  • JDoraime

For myself, the question isn’t “how many do I think Chihiro should focus on” as it is “will Chihiro sub the shows I like if they do this many?”

  • robert

i feel that you should work on less shows and focus on the quality of the shows. to me, and i dont know about everyone else, quality is better then quantity

  • harnstar13

i wouldn’t mind if you did less shows. you would might end up with a back log of shows that you might get tired of doing. you might end up having to drop a project if you don’t have enough time. i believe that quality should not be sacrificed in palace of speed just because some butt-munch keeps on bitching.

  • Of corse the FIRST OPTION ^^

Better Quality of subs and screen and speed as well ^^

  • I come to Chihiro because I know I’m getting the best quality subs I can find for my respective anime, as well as you’re doing subbing of shows that no one else is doing; kind of like killing two birds with one stone.

What’s the old saying? “Quality over Quantity.” If dong less makes overall performance greater, i say go for that 100%

  • Miroku74

Vlaeghe brings up a good point, as well as some of the other posters.

Quality is *always* more preferable to quantity imho ^^. And you never know what monkey wrenches RL will throw your way in the future. It’ll help to have more breathing space should anything crop up. It’s better to enjoy what you’re doing than to find it getting to be less and less of a thrill finding you bit off more than you could chew.

Keep up the great job guys!

  • Cyber1

This is hard one. If all the shows are of equal quality / interest, I’d say “take four”. But they aren’t. So I’d pick those that are promising to be the best (are based on successful (V)N) or have previous season subbed by you. Former option will give you more people watching them, latter will keep those who have your previous release faithful to you with your next one.
Number will depend on how many good/bad shows will be airing: it’s pointless to sub 2 good + 3 bad shows equally average (2+1 would be better), and subbing only 3 out of 5 great shows will give you less followers than subbing 5/5.
IMO this makes poll incorrect (it’s based on wrong criteria), so I’m not voting.

  • ana

Might recommend you take a look at what shows you might want to do for spring 09 first. If any of the shows you do are longer than 13 eps, they’ll definitely take up staff, time and resources for anything you’d want to do in the spring. So decide what staff you want for spring shows and assign them the shorter shows for winter or give them a brief break or assign them as back up.

  • Hmm

I think that most people always say they want quality and end up going for speed. It’s like a reverse-psychology sort of thing.

But really I’ve never thought of Chihiro as speed subs, even when you were rolling out five series at a time during the summer.

The poll looks 55/45, but what I really think it should be is what you guys want to do. If there are five awesome series and you want to grab them all and it’s fun, then go for it. If it’s a drain and a PITA and you don’t have the horsepower then just go with the three.

But either way – I think that Chihiro fans will be Chihiro fans regardless of direction.

Mostly because even if it’s fast, your subs are still a high level of quality and you guys rock.

  • Darkangel

Anything works as long as you guys don’t overwork yourselves. If you say you can do three, then go ahead, and if you feel that you have a lot of free time you can do a sideproject or two. As for the choices they’re always great, i’ve made a commitment to watch all the shows you guys are subbing and in the process of doing so ๐Ÿ™‚ Keep up the good work!

  • I believe you should work on three animes and not five. You’ve been up for almost a year, from what i remember and have done a fabulous job. Concentrating on three animes will increase quality for each one overall, and once there, you can go to fourth and the fifth ones.

but in the end, its what you want to do.

  • player88

I like to see Tetsuko no Tabi ๐Ÿ™‚

  • Metroid_Ex

    Quality over Quantity

  • Miros

Well I mean that it’ll be good more anime with good quality even if it’ll be a bit late released ๐Ÿ˜›
I just prefer Chihiro subs that’s why.

About Chaos;Head – Chihiro released only 2 episodes if i’m right. So I’d like to know is there any sense in waiting for the rest.

  • FlyTaggart

I would say you start with 3 series and when one series that you dont sub got no subgroup maybe you take this series too

  • Maruno

You should do however many you feel comfortable with, and as many as you know you can do a good job on. Quality wins every time.

I voted for “quality” rather than “3 shows”. The only reason I might care about speed is the worry that a show may be licensed before you get finished with it.

  • Quality Over Quantity. If you feel that 3 shows is what you guys can handle than so be it, you guys are people to (…With Lives).

Which either way you guys go, thanks for all your hard work! and I can’t wait for the next season to start up!

  • EricT

I vote 3 although Im more then confident in your abilities to pull off 5 and still make everyone happy I havnt seen any poor quality stuff from you guys at all and thats a huge bonus which also puts you guys at the tops on my list for Fan subs with DB in a close 2nd >.< but they only do bleach and Naurto, and naruto sucks. I say pick 3 that you guys wanna do I’m sure we will enjoy them. 1 it doesnt stress you guys out, 2 you can still take your time if need be, and 3 you can always add on extra projects if you feel your not being kept busy enough! lol thats my take on it, so which ever you choose I’ll be happy I’m sure everyone else will also!

  • chikuyo

1st..i just wanna knoe wat u guy will be subbing this winter….
and the poll dun hav much option…i think i vote over 3 cos this make Chihiro sub got more respect from other group outhere and many more follower since our friends got different interest in different things..like me i dun like Ef….even thou its chihiro main anime sub
to do over 5 pls see ur list of staff..i dun wat u guys overwork only doing this “subbing” all days………u guys got my salute…

  • amos

I never noticed any problems with quality of your subs to date. I also didn’t think you were slow on any shows you were doing. I think that you are doing a great job now. Not really sure I would notice any difference if you decided to do less shows with more quality. Please keep doing what you’re doing, the more shows done by Chihiro, the better.

  • Cinesra

i liked what chihiro did on this fall anime season.
they had show with speed and shows with speed and quality.
in my opinion i think the 3 with greater quality would be the best choice.
but that couldnt stopping you from doing a few quick shows here and there.

  • Haruhi-chan

Well most people are choosing their fansubgroup by speed( Noobs^^) but for the real fans it would be the fact that quality is the mainpoint of choosing either Chihiro or another group….since quality will last for a longer period people who want to enjoy their weekly animeepisode will download from chihiro. So quality is always better than speed. You guys are doing this in your freetime and we are glad that people are willing to sub an anime for free for us people who do not know the japanese language =(

    So 3 shows..that’s fine….

keep ur good work up guys!

  • mX

I voted for 3 animes lesser speed and more quality!
I think quality is better… I always archieve anime I look, so i have more than 75 DVD burned of anime!
I can wait a week or 2 longer for better quality

If the “3 anime quality” wins, Then I hope you guys will also sub the openings and endings!

  • DarknessAngel

    ” 5 shows > 3 shows .(END) ”

Why ? because the subbing quality is better here then other groups and id rather see shows with focuse on subbs more than quality of the video … since i dont really have problems with the current quality of Chihiro’s releases .. Even tho i am archiving the good anime i see i still think that the better the subbing , the better the experience .

  • mX

I archieve everything I download, so also the animes I dont like
for the moment of the 40-50 animes i saw, i only disliked 3 of them

  • DSASNG77

Maybe you guys and girls can pick up: Gunslinger Girl 2 _ Il Teatrino.
It’s ashow that seems to be left alone by many subbers, just because they either don’t want to finish it or can’t finish it.
On the Plus Side: It has loli’s ๐Ÿ˜›

Anyhow. I don’t mind the socalled “Lesser Quality” of Chihiro Subs. In fact most of them are equal or better than so-called quality sub-groups. Just keep on the good work and i’ll see what you have to bring us oncoming year….

Merry X-mas and a happy New Year [just in case i have my holdiday plans coming out :P]

  • sagrado_corazon

I’d actually prefer 5 shows instead of 3.
Anything will be greatly appreciated though.

  • z n 1

its 60-40 just now, its close.

  • Stryder

I think the poll is a bit early. Without knowing what the potential options of what projects may be done, it becomes hard to really give a proper response. Quality is the best, but variety also plays a part in drawing in a larger following.

Honestly, I think 3 shows to keep quality and speed consistant would probably be the best route to take. Then maybe throw in a couple OVAs perodically for “special” projects that would attract others to the site.

  • fuzzbucket

I agree. Plan on doing three series to begin with and you can always add a series if you want later on.

  • Buster Blader 126

If it means improved quality, by all means, take on fewer series this season.

Honestly, I’m baffled at how quickly you’re releasing episodes despite the number of projects you have.

  • shuffleair

I don’t know. It kind of depends on who’s subbing what and what shows aren’t being subbed at all.

  • patoriku

I voted for quality, but I like Chihiro because you guys don’t OVER-sub. If fewer shows just means more bling then I may regret my choice. Other than that, fewer shows will give you more time for side projects like stalled series, OVAs, promos, McDonalds comercials, mid-terms, sleep……

  • Roflmatic

Will winter session include Sekirei’s continue? Anyone has an idea about this? -sorry for lame question tho. ^^

  • Zippy

You guys should just sub within your comfort zone regardless of what anyone else thinks. I think people tend to forget that you have lives and whatnot. That being said, I prefer quality over quantity any day.

  • SmoothRKJ

    I root for speed & quality… That’s all.

    Over and out!

  • required

As long it is with quality…that where the good part. You play ball? I play ball.

Or you can take part speedsubbing and look where it takes you. But seriously then…a nutless monkey can do your job. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  • larceny

3 anime + less speed = great quality

this how you guys make the best sub’s this is my vote wooot

  • I prefer quantity over quality, the probability of seeing something that I would like will be greater. Bye!

  • I think that doing 3 series is better since Chihiro can then sub stalled series and such, as patoriku said ๐Ÿ˜€ ever thought of finishing off Galaxy Angel Rune? xD

  • monsieurkirby

I like to archive the episodes I download and watch, and typically, that means I will only download quality subs. I don’t even bother with getting speedsubs if i know a quality sub will come later. Also, quality subs usually means better video quality, since speedsubs tend to rely on whatever crappy video is out first. So, that’s another crucial factor I look at.

  • luke

i think it also depends on which series you would pick up and if other groups would sub them too…for example, if you pick up an other show that no other group subs in english (like kyou no go no ni), it would be better to stick to 3…..but then again, i think 3 is better in any aspect, regardless of which you pick up….that way, stalled projects can move a bit, and catch up

  • Lebon14

Like pretty much of all the people who commented, I’m for quality over quantity. I’ve been watching your subs for a while and I thought they were of a great quality. I don’t want that to go away! I want the same good quality on every releases; even if it takes longer to release.

    tl;dr? Quality over quantity.

  • narutokunX7

better quality is better to watch ;]

  • KrfT

I personally prefer 3 series with better quality + lesser speed than poor quality + faster speed, why cuz good quality is better and i’m also with mX cuz i also archive every serie i look and i want to archive series with good quality.
but whatever the choice the chihiro staff pick will be greatly appreciated though.
