A useful alternative might be to make a second .mkv file available at a lower resolution (on par with this episode) for the higher resolution series. I’m assuming making a second .mkv is easier than encoding an .avi.

dmon is right, you can try to not be wasty without considering how much resources actually are left. however, if his RMVB converting really has such a high quality output, aren’t HQ input sources required to make full use of it?

  • DmonHiro

@jaka: no, he doesn’t. He’s not even CLOSE to having a point.

Lord, thous garden overflowes with idiots, does it not?

  • ?

    @Soiren

to convert files that are approximately 169MB to RMVB files while you have a (3×500gb) hard drive?

    that’s beyond stupid you fail

  • robert

umm…h264 is like a million times better and it does work on consoles you just have to convert the format to .mp4 or avi and you can put it on basically anything like for me i use my .mp3 player because i dont have enough time to sit down and watch on the computer

Hi, thanks for the release and your hard work!

HI there, i want to know if someone knows where can i find the fisrt Two Seasons including the OVA(if possible) of this series. I want to start from the very bottom. Thanks for everything.

    Thanks for the sub!

As for Avi vs. Mkv well I personally download the avi versions. Yes my computer can handle mkv’s, yes I have every codec known to man. I prefer avi’s for there universal point. Right now mkv’s are like Blu ray. Yeah it’s better overall, yeah it’s totally awesome but they can be a pain to deal with when you want to use it on say a PSP or transfer it to your PS3/XBOX. Oh for the console hating guy, computers don’t convert as well to TV’s as consoles do, plain and simple fact. Besides I like to keep my media players to a minimum. Oh before I forget, compressing files with little quality loss is a great idea. I have a 1.5 terabyte hard drive literally filled with anime. It’s great being in college :P.

Playing stuff on your consoles is for people who don’t have those HDMI HDTV setup to their computers.

I don’ t know about you but even with a good job snagging that awesome 1080p 61in. samsung tv isn’t necessarily an easy thing considering other bills to pay

That and well, .mp4 is my vote for ‘the format’ to be used. It has the quality capabilities of mkv AND THEN it also plays on all the consoles for those who want their anime to be watched from their living room sofa…

    .mp4 ftw!

I’ve been looking at the different versions of the fansubs of Maria 4th season and Chihiro definitely did the best job with the subtitling and translations; however, the sound is really soft and I have to turn the volume up quite loud on my computer just to hear it. Is there any way I can fix this?

“By all means, a 130 MB 704×396 h.264 MKV CFR 23.976 fps should play on nearly ANY computer, regardless of age.”

I can’t play them. And yes I acknowledge my computer is quite old (AMD thunderbird 1 GHz bought 7 years ago, and a crappy video card). Anyway this is not really a problem, it fits most of my uses. Before watching a MPEG-4 AVC file (H264), I just convert it to MPEG-1 at 3 Mbps or more depending on the video resolution. MPEG-1 is fast to decode so it’s ok. It produces a big file but you can trash it after use.

    Thanks for the sub!
    People should stop complaining

Hi! Thnx for all your work. I have one negative thing about Maria sama ga miteru 4th season first episode that you guys encoded and that is, the sharp lines gets kind of unstable(?) when the charachters´s moving. Should it be so (probobly not) or is it my computer that cant handel this video from you guys?
It´s kind of irritateing for my eyes… Maybe just my imagination but i still keep seeing it.
So Should the sharp lines be unstable or not?
