I want to know where Saten goes shopping. Seriously, her outfits are just so cute that I want to snuggle her up close.
By the way, Path, the next time you see me, do not expect to leave with your spleen in one piece.
We’re looking for an editor. This usually means like 1,000,000 recruits so I’m going to filter some out now. Do not apply if you change under 10 things in it. If you need to look hard for more things to edit so to get it above 10, don’t apply. Heck, if you have to work to get 20 things, you’re probably best off not applying to. Our usual editor changes like… 300 things. >.>
Also, keep in mind what editing is. Editing is NOT a proofreader. Editing is someone who goes into the script and actually changes dialogue so that what is said sounds more reasonable for spoken speech.
And if you have to ask what the difference between a hyphen and a dash is, don’t apply. And if I find an “alright” in a submitted script you will be automatically rejected.
Join #Chihiro-recruits, bug us, post it, and idle for at least 24 hours.
720p: Saten
480p: -san
thanks! ๐
I agree! Saten is adorable! <3
I’m a little interested to find out the process people actually go through to do fansubs. Learning Japanese and watching everything from speedsubs to commercial releases, I sometimes wonder why particular phrases are chosen. Is it part of the editors job to just change the translated script or to actually make it sound truer to what is spoken? What about expressions? Or jokes? In Episode 2 of Railgun when they are cleaning the pool at 16:50, the question about the Chinese dynasty is actually about the ‘Song’ (pronounced Sou in Japanese) dynasty. Is that the editor’s role or someone else?
YES! Awesome. Thank you for the release.
Aodh, the Song Dynasty thing is something that every step of the process found. That’s the team in general’s job. We’re trying to avoid TL notes, so we will probably release a .txt of any extraneous notes like that in the final batch.
Saten is mine! OPEN HEART!
Just for kicks, I decided to check the dialog you had put up for railgun ep 10. Came across 26 edits I would have made, before checking the dialog against the video. While I would love to help, I’m currently helping another fansub group out that without me wouldn’t have a native English speaker who deals with their editor/QC needs.
For those looking at the file, I recommend the EmEditor, it’s an excellent program for doing this kind of thing.
I hope you guys here at Chihiro find someone soon, you always tend to sub shows that I like :D.
Yeah… Path didn’t edit this ep. So he probably would have done those 26 edits plus uh… 125 more >_>
Saten goes shopping in the same mall where Kristen gets her freshly baked lolis.
*slaps knee*
Kristen, so how would something like that be decided to put “Indeed” or “The Song Dynasty” since both could me the correct response and without translation notes to show both? Just wondering how the pieces fit…
I should try the test just for kicks.
>difference between a hyphen and a dash
lol, who cares? we all use – (minus) on our keyboards anyway…
(for the record, I do know the difference)
is there something wrong with my sound card or is this episode a bit loud? i hear distortion.
Sounded fine to me. Did you accidently enter a gain value to your audio somewhere (player, audio switcher, sound card, etc.)?
Or perhaps you’ve been playing “Level Upper” too much? ๐
Btw, I wonder if Toma will pop up and help Biribiri save the day again before the end of the season?
why would “alright” be forbidden ? I don’t quite understand o_รด
“Alright” is not all right if you’re speaking American English.
Indeed. I was wondering about that myself. It’s an extremely common word that would appear all the time in anime, and everything else. I would like for Kristen to explain herself on this. What you’re saying makes no sense. :-/
“Alright” is not proper grammar.
That’s all there is to it.
You all suck.

Usage note:
The form alright as a one-word spelling of the phrase all right in all of its senses probably arose by analogy with such words as already and altogether. Although alright is a common spelling in written dialogue and in other types of informal writing, all right is used in more formal, edited writing.
Is it just me, or does Railgun not contain as much…well Railgun as I would have thought?
@DragonRanger: Note that Index didn’t contain much Index, either. At least we get to stare at other cute girls between appearances of the middle-school shocker, as opposed to staring at Touma.
So you guys take 1-2 weeks longer than other subbers, have the same or lower quality, and now are crying about real words?
/delete favorites link, I dont know why I even come to this site anymore. Wheres coalguys when you need them to do some serious trolling :(.
@Fenix I feel sorry for the group that relies on you for their editing/QC needs, if you only found 26 errors… I started my first pass about 45 minutes ago, and I’ve had to make changes to at least 1/2 the lines so far.
if you dont wanna come then dont.
Perhaps this was part of the test, but you should edit this topic to Railgun not Raingun… =)
@illcry
Actually, Chihiro has the best HD quality out of any of the sub groups. It doesn’t take much to notice that (not by much but still better).
@ninja
They release HD versions of non-HD raws? I didnt know this was an animation studio.
Unless your talking about the versions they release two years later, because I like watching anime two years after its come out.
not really, compare the asura crying from chihiro to the one from horrible subs, you will notice the differece…
@Tan
I wasn’t talking about asura crying, I was talking about railgun specifically. Well, I compared a lot of different groups releases of railgun, and chihiro has a slightly better vid quality. I’m not sure if they sharpened it or not. Either way, its not a significant difference or anything, check it out.
http://ji-hi.net/railgun/index.html
You probably can’t tell much from the images, but there is a difference… especially mazui… they have a bit of a blur which is annoying. You probably won’t notice unless you look at the vid though…
My only problem with chihiro is some of their choice of words….
on another note, tokyotosho is down ๐
Kristen do you need a cuddling? :3
@qwerty and chaosrains: you are correct saying that “alright” is not proper in formal english but that’s being excessively pedantic to complain about it’s usage in anime. The language used in anime is meant to be informal and therefore, “alright” is perfectly acceptable. Now it may not be perfectly acceptable to Kristen and I accept that ruling. However, it doesn’t mean it’s wrong in general, and it would be silly to reject a potential candidate for the position of editing merely based on that, assuming all other requirements were met. Language is meant to be flexible and adaptable. It’s only a tool after all and the result is what matters most.
railgunnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn
