Well that was fun.There’s something satisfying about clearing out random junk for me. Between Kristen and myself I think we deleted around 7000 spam comments over the course of the day. There’s still more, but I think I cleaned all of the 2008 posts. But I doubt any of you care about that.
I also locked everything that was posted in 2008 so we don’t have to do that again. Particularly those Rosario posts… Those looked like spam magnets when I went through them. If, for some inane reason, you need to comment about it, comment here instead. It’ll be more likely to be noticed. But I doubt most of you care about that.
So why am I posting if I don’t think you care? I’m in an odd mood and wanna try something for a week or so. I’m going to treat any comment asking/begging/crying/threatening for show X in a post about show Y as spam and delete it. If you want to ask about a particular show, either ask about it in the most recent post for that show, or in this post. The idea is that, eventually, we make a post up in the sidebar specifically for people to ask about shows. If you’re civil about it, we’re more likely to give you a status update instead of just ignoring you or delaying it. But, in my opinion, part of being civil is asking in the right place. So we’ll use this as a prototype and decide what happens from there.

heh, i like the idea of civility in asking for an update status. i’m also ok with chihiro completely ignoring those beggers though. i get a chuckle out of it sometimes.

Reminds me of a quip I made a while back…
I work in a deli, and one of corporate’s new deals is “Civic Business”. One day I get to work and walk in on my boss telling one of my coworkers to “handle the situation in a civic manner”. So I chime in with “and by civic manner she means with leather chaps and a bull whip!”… now it’s all over (palm)facebook.
Moral of the story:
Asking trolls to be civic in their posts is like asking them to bend over… They’ll just laugh and ramp up the “OMG GIMME SHOWS I WANTS!!!1!11!!” bull. You’ve got to lay it out for them, like “if you troll, we delay – end of story” or something… and then follow through.
Either way keep up the great work.

It would probably stop a lot of the inquiries if there were a page here (or information on a side bar) which gave the current status of shows. But then you could run into issues where people are complaining that it’s not updated enough or where they think that it’s not up-to-date even though it is. There will, unfortunately, always be complainers after all. But having somewhere which clearly indicates the current status of ongoing Chihiro projects could reduce the problem.

Then why don’t they make a download page as well, and in the process destroy great post system that makes you want to come to this site just for the comments of the staff. And don’t forget about the high initial work load of re-building a large part of the site.
I think the posting system should stay the way it is, it gives a nice personal touch.
(Although I would like to see the categories in alphabetical order, for easy-er searching)

It was just a suggestion. Take it how you will, but your reaction seems a bit extreme. I don’t see how having a page that lists project statuses would affect how they currently post stuff here. They could even add a download page if they wanted to, and the post system would be just fine. Sure, folks could choose to just go straight to the download page and ignore the posts, but that wouldn’t stop the staff from continuing to post stuff like they do, and if someone cares enough to read those posts and comment on them, they still will. If anything, it would probably cut down on useless and spammy posts since people who didn’t care about anything but grabbing the torrents would just go grab the torrents.
But whatever. The Chihiro staff will do whatever they want to do. I was just suggesting a possible solution for the problem of the constant pestering for status updates.

I always wonder why people are so impatient to the point of crying over a show that’s still being worked over before its release. YOU GUYS are the ones who have to deal with the workload. I will always appreciate fan-sub groups for this reason (_ _).
just to be sure…could u guys do a post on what shows u are planning to do or are currently doing? i just wan to confirm what shows will be done coz i remember seeing various posts saying you guys are planning to do anime x or anime y. and i have been waiting for awhile but no releases yet.

I meant no ill intent; I just think the site is very good. It’s clean and somewhat relaxed, and the banners are a great touch. And I obviously love the comments.
To keep it this way I would only recommend that the categories are placed in alphabetical order, since the batch is usually the last comment in the category. I don’t really see the need for a download page, or a stat column, since the posts usually include status remarks.
