Big rant follows.
Today, I finished up The Legend of the Legendary Heroes. It was a great show, and I was curious to see if there were any announcements about a second season, an OVA, or anything of the like. So I went to animenewsnetwork’s page about it to see if there were any news to be had about it.
Now, I run my computer at 1024×768 resolution. It’s a laptop, so it’s the best to do. And you know what the page looks like when I open it? It looked like this. GIGANTIC ADS EVERYWHERE to the point where you can’t even see the article without scrolling down.
So then I scrolled down to the list of the news section. What was there? “Hell Girl 3, Seitokai no Ichizon, Regios Streamed”, from 12/27. “Nyan Koi!, H20, Ninomiya-kun, Air Movie, Beck Streamed” from 12/17. Etc. Out of 10 news items on the first page, 7 of them were about streaming. Of the other 3, 2 were just relations saying that somebody who worked on LOLH was working on something else. 1, the Blu-Ray sales ranking, was actually about the series.
And the thing is, these 7 streaming news, 6 of them had the exact same thing. “These shows are being streamed, and here’s the BIG LIST OF EVERYTHING ELSE STREAMING”.
Somebody please pass the word on to ANN that we want to read the NEWs, not the OLDs. And while you’re at it, tell them that they’re more biased than fox news.
Well said.
I never really liked ANN in the first place, but it looks like it’s getting even worse.
Yeah, I stopped using ANN a long time ago because whoever designed it has obviously had their head up their ass for a long time. They apparently don’t understand that throwing a bunch of crap together then trying to make it look like it fits doesn’t actually work.
Honestly, it’s like a bad high school project or something.
>GIGANTIC ADS EVERYWHERE
This is why you use Firefox with Adblock Plus. I wasn’t even aware that ANN had ads.
Yeah. That annoying Zwinky ad.
heh, ye i use adblock plus too so i was wondering what the rant on the ads was about ^_^
wow kris i see we have the same taste in anime by the look off your ff theme of nagisa ^^ but yeah ann realy starting t o get to me with all the ads but luckly i use adblock plus to ^^
I was really annoyed by the massive background/border ads at first, mostly due to clicking them by accident while scrolling, but after i blocked a few scripts on ANN I can mostly ignore them now. ^_^ Other than that I block all the top and sidebar adverts by default and only read the rss for news, if there’s something interesting only then do i actually go to ANN for anything but series info.
Yeah, AdBlock Plus solves (most of) the ad problems
And I use the same FF theme of Nagisa on my netbook ^^
I just go there to find out who’s who’s seiyuu when Wikipedia is being stupid and says some series isn’t relevant enough to warrant mention.
AdBlock+ and NoScript leaves me wondering why some sites have so much room to spare. xD
Instead of ranting about other people being OLD, upgrade your OLD Windows XP to a NEW Windows 7, then you start talking…
Implying a old laptop used for light browsing would benefit from Windows 7
Adblock + Kaspersky’s Anti-Banner + NoScript… good combo
More than Fox? ouch xD jajaja
It’s funny actually, a local newspaper site is so full of adds that ya gotta read between the ads in order to read an actual article xD
I agree about LoLH, but unfortunately the sales tanked so it’s unlikely we’ll get a second season.
Maybe a couple OVA’s in a couple years, who knows
Somebody please pass the word on to ANN that we want to read the NEWs, not the OLDs. And while you’re at it, tell them that they’re more biased than msnbc.
Agreed and fixed.
Amen Mr. Anon, I whole-heartedly agree! – Only thing that Fox News is biased towards is giving BOTH parties a voice, treating people like they have intelligence and letting people make up their own minds.
Sad to see the left-wing think that they’re smarter than anyone else and they’re the only ones with an opinion worth hearing. – Heaven forbid they hear something that threatens their closed minded rhetoric!
try this, load an ann page, then slam this into your urlbar, it brutalizes it 🙂
javascript: document.body.innerHTML=document.getElementById(‘content-zone’).innerHTML;
that is actually quite awful… also you should try minimizing your firefox’s toolbars, that thing is massive. and also installing adblock plus, that at least kills the banner ad between the Gantz poster and the headlines marquee, though, they’re doing something tricky to keep that Gantz poster visible.
My old ‘craptop’ actually got higher FPS on MMOs using W7 beta than it did on XP. Take from that what you will, as games aren’t the same as browsing. I don’t really see an excess of toolbars there either, though there is blank space which I’m assuming is an empty bookmark toolbar that could be closed.
I use FF with Adblock Plus (I turn it off for sites I want to support so they get ad revenue) along with Adblock Plus Element Hiding Helper. The latter is an add-on that will let you click a portion of a website you want to hide, and it will add a rule to block it. Just make sure you use preview mode when using it so you don’t block the actual content on purpose.
Ok since I’ve been bored on lunch time… heres a better one… it gets rid of all the gantz junk.
javascript: document.getElementById(“page-header-tabs”).style.setProperty(“padding-top”, “0”, “important”); document.getElementById(“sidebar”).style.setProperty(“display”, “none”, “important”); document.getElementById(“maincontent”).style.setProperty(“margin-right”, “0px”, “important”); document.getElementById(
“content”).setAttribute(“style”, “min-width: 0px !important; margin: 0 0px 0 0px !important”);
You can just stick this as a bookmark, then hit it after you load the ann page….. I’ve also got a modified skin.css file… but theres really no easy way to have it load that instead unless you’re running addons.
> This is why you use Firefox with Adblock Plus. I wasn’t even aware that ANN had ads.
This.
I cannot believe it, I did the same thing… 1 day before… lol I finished the same series, went on ANN to do the same thing to find out that there is NO real news about LOLH and told myself how ugly the Gantz ad is… Thank God I have a 23 inch 1920×1080 monitor… lol
Is there anyone who knows if there will be another season, OVA or movie for Legend of Legendary Heroes? We’re a couple guys at work that I shared the series with who can’t wait to see what will happen… 😛
Firefox + Ad block Plus + Noscript = Win =)
Aside from the ads, the news they post there is just… >_>
I was also looking for something related to the anime i searched for, but as Kristen said, almost all of them are not even related to it. I see them as Crunchyroll.
>Firefox + Ad block Plus + Noscript
Aa… that’s what people do these days… instead of fixing the problem they work-around it’s effect…
‘not in my responsibility’, huh?
I’ve always found NoScript to block entirely too much.
> Aa… that’s what people do these days… instead of fixing the problem they work-around it’s effect…
> ‘not in my responsibility’, huh?
And what would you suggest to actually FIX the problem? work-arounds are the best anyone has, unless they happen to run the offending site.
AdBlock Plus has been already recommended, so I offer another good extension: FlashBlock
This is useful too 😉
episode 24 of he Legend of the Legendary Heroes isnt the end ._. there was supposed to be a ep 25 but i think it wasnt subbed… or it has been subbed already?
haha, LOLH deserves a 2nd season or something, hopefully it will.
ANN has gradually gotten more and more biased, a few years back it was all bout not streaming anime and just news. Now its “watch now” or “streaming now on crunchyroll”, a bunch of crap.
and i dont think theres anyone more biased than fox news, <_<
using opera and can’t see any ads :p
I’m probably stating the obvious here, but ANN isn’t a very good place to learn about upcoming series in Japan. It mainly centers on the U.S. market. It’s much easier to go to anidb.net for anime information. It also contains no commercials, making it much easier on the eye.
tip of the day, this is how you use ANN:
open google, type Anime news network : titleoftheanimeyouwant relationsyouwant
scroll down on results
profit !
The ads can be alleviated somewhat by going to the skins section and choosing “ANN 2006.”
