I’ve read the manga, it was very good ! Hopefully the anime follows 🙂
Regardling the translation to “grandpa”, I’m not sure if it’s “ojiisan” or “ojisan”, but it sounds like the latter to me, and that should translate to “uncle”, or at least an honoric that would be used on somebody in their thirties.
If you mean at the end, the joke is that she’s calling him an old man. Why else would he get so upset?
I think he’s actually upset that he’s being called “uncle”, when she’s his aunt.
I thought the idea was that her real father was an old man, so she called her new father the same thing.
Thing is, though, I’m fairly sure children are taught to call men in their thirties “Ojisan”, or “uncle”, and men in their fifties or sixties “Ojiisan”, or “grandpa”, and from Daikichi’s reaction, I thought he found being called “Ojisan” (uncle) by somebody who he himself would address as “obasan” (aunt) to be strange. Not to mention, from what I hear, it doesn’t seem like the “ji” is being spoken as “jii”, ie, it doesn’t seem longer.
From what I can tell, the one before the ED is oji-san and then the one after the ED is ojii-chan.
So basically, the first one should be uncle/old man/etc.(anything a child would call an oldish looking man), but the second one should be grandpa.

That’s of the joke: she addresses him as “Uncle,” gets scolded, and next time goes even further in the wrong direction with “Grandpa.” When he makes a face at that, she immediately corrects it to “Daikichi.” Since he doesn’t visibly or audibly react to that, she sticks to it.
If it’s from manga, then I apologize for my jumping to conclusion; it’s just, the way I heard it, I didn’t hear it elongated “jii” sound, so sorry about that.

You are correct about the one before the ED since it is not ojii-san. The script uses the same word in both cases, which probably wasn’t quite right.
What, this isn’t “The Rabbit God Only Knows” or something like that?
