Obviously that is a paper straw. Just like the paper straws we have to deal with in New Jersey all the time that have no rigidity, and if you dare refill your drink even one time they start disintegrating! I swear, plastic is evil but sometimes it’s a necessary evil… Or you could be like the supermarkets and be like “Hey, you want to ban plastic bags, sure. Ban paper too – because despite us having a record amount of trees in the US we’ll pretend that they’re a problem!” So now when I get a quart of ice cream from the store I have to carry it directly with my hands…

I think the solution is to buy your own metal straw (ideally with some sort of container for it) so you can whip it out when you need it. But that leads to the issue of needing to know when you’re going to need it, but I think a good 80% of the time you will know in advance. And you can get a several and keep one at home, one in the car, one at work, etc. I’m fucking done with paper straws, they are so fucking ass holy shit.
