Why oh why did they have to include part of chapter 25 this early in the series? Just because I said “Looks like we won’t have inserts for another month at least”? Either way, big thanks to Soi for TLing it after I managed to hunt down the manga raw with the lyrics that were spoken over with screams.

monme and gou were units of measurements in the 1920s before everything went strictly metric after WWII. Some old imperial units are still used (such as sake is still sold in terms of gou) but it is primarily a function of the time.
10 yen again = about $500 today. Interestingly, the manga had it as 5 yen a piece – not sure what prompted the change.

Cultural Note: When buying fabric, he mentions 10 and 12 yen. Japan experienced a lot of inflation in the 1930s, so 10 and 12 yen is much more than it is today. In 1921 1 yen was roughly equivalent to 50 US cents – or about $6 in modern era. So this fabric is $60 and $72 in modern prices, which is rather expensive for a set of linen clothes!
