So, I’m going to skip any usual ranting to talk directly on our releases on Zettai Karen Children in general. ZKC is a fun series, and we have some people willing to translate it. However, the main translator for the series entered a new schedule of post-summer where he basically only has 4 hours of free time per week. As such, we needed to change translators. To compound to that, the main person TLCing it has told us that he doesn’t want to TLC this series again due to Aya Hirano making TLCing impossible. As such, our TL has been relying on what I call “light” TLC, where the editor has some knowledge of Japanese, but not a whole lot, so he does not catch all errors.
Simply put, we ran out of options on ZKC. We cannot have a strict J->E TL of it yet, because our only J->E TLer is working on other series and is at his max for the rest of the summer. We cannot get a J->E TLCer either, since we have 1 busy with school work, one busy with RL, and one who refuses to do it. So, this is C->E with two light J->E passes on it. Hence the lower TL quality as of late.
For the saying “They released it poorly for lols”, no. We haven’t released something for a laugh in months, and even then, that was Jaka releasing for laughs, me to release.
We will solve our TL issues after this season finishes, though. We’re doing a little project shuffle for the fall so that we’re doing less series than we initially planned so as to allow for better concentration on them and for more of a possibility to sub shows that need them later on in the season, and that should solve some problems.
Also, Chihiro doesn’t troll. We get trolled. On an unrelated note, this episode threw in a different challenge to me, so I was unable to do VFR on it. I’m going to try on episode 23 and see how it works out.

Just curious, will Chihiro be doing ZKC 02-13 as well? Because I’m not sure if I should still wait for Chihiro’s releases for those or if I should be looking for other subs already.
@Kumi: Not until they do 23-24? Just asking, have you not already got Deculture’s releases for the earlier eps..? IMO a mixed batch torrent at the end is still fine….

EcchiMan, a TLCer runs through the script after it’s been raw translated. They deal with any incorrectly translated lines they find.
A QCer runs though the script after TL, TLC, Edit, Time, and in a quality group, Typesetting. They correct things like inconsistancies, typos, and things that the editor might have missed. Generally, they’re looking over the other people’s work.
Kumi: 2-11 and 13 right now are quite lower priorities than catching up with the present. There was Deculture for 01-14 before, so as to be releasing new stuff instead of regurgitating, we’re working on the present episodes only until we hit episode 24.

I’ve seen a few episodes and judging from the Chinese subs I saw beforehand, the problems with Chihiro subs in ZKC is not the translation, rather, it’s the QC after translation.
It’s pretty ugly to have typos/spelling errors, and even incorrect character names and horrorifics scattered all over the episode. One moment, all seems fine and the next moment, it went haywire. Feels like you have a few people translating and nobody doing QC.
I mean no offence, but since you’re already off the current Japan air time, focus on getting good subs out, rather than catching up with the air time and speedsubbing after that. What matters is quality, not quantity.
I support and appreciate your efforts. The earlier episodes were a job well-done. I’ve posted in animesuki earlier about your pink fonts and I was glad it changed to purple (or a darker shade of pink), and now it seems pink again. And the font has changed again…it’s smaller now that I have to squirm a bit.
I have a suggestion. Hope you can consider it. Use the “second sub font” that you used from time to time, you know , the white font. I think that may be the best possible font to use.

Peanutbutter003, do you really think a C-E TLer will be able to understand name puns that usually suck when translated into Chinese? Or that they can understand references to jokes in the series that are distinctly cultural? There’s also the fact that the Chinese subs don’t translate every line or sign in a show.
I agree with you – there are quality issues with ZKC. The reason we put so much TLC on ZKC was the fact that it needed to be checked, especially for the names.
However, we’re not going to slow down releases for this reason either. We’ll continue to get the eps out as fast as possible, but we’re also aware of what can be improved on.

These aren’t the cause of the complaints. Not knowing these things either, we don’t even notice if such an inaccuracy occurs. However, when a mistake is so blatant that even someone with no knowledge whatsoever of Japanese can catch it, there’s something wrong here. Certain mistakes are understandable, but some of the naming mistakes could easily have been remedied by a simple 10 second check against ZKC’s Wiki entry, and a handful of others should have been immediately obvious to anyone.
With that said, we of course all appreciate the time and effort being devoted to these subs, but comments like this, “we’re not going to slow down releases for this reason either,” are somewhat discouraging.
