Yea, I’ve noticed that about Torigaya too. In the flashback to when Washizu first met him in middle school, he looked a lot older. For a second I thought it was someone else. What the fuck is up Torigaya?

@Soichiro, Kristen: Guys, I’m not saying that you’re doing it wrong. Personally, my DVD player plays your XviD releases as they are, even with QPel and 3 B-frames (it’s been made recently, though). It’s just that you can do it better. I mean, you already do one “quality” – H.264 – release (as long as “quality” can be said about TV source), why don’t you make second one “compatible”? One (if not the only) of areas where XviD is better than H.264 is its compatibility: XviD/avi can be played on almost everything that’s capable of showing video, while H.264/mkv can hardly be played on anything besides recent computer (preferably under Windows, if we consider softsubs).
You can have wider audience if you do a little research.
P.S. I hope you know that CCCP (or whatever) can’t be installed on standalone player.
And JFYI: K-Lite is the most popular codec pack (40M (fourty million) downloads vs. 400k for CCCP, http://www.free-codecs.com/Codec_Packs.htm ). So make sure your releases are playable on K-Lite defaults if you don’t want to lose potential downloaders.
Anyone able to make gif images? I would really love one without subs for this episode at 9:50 to 9:53 if possible.
Cyber1: These subs are meant for computer playback. Problem solved. Also the CCCP has it’s own servers and most don’t download if from a secondary source, like the one you list with the download numbers. Stop trying to change their minds already, and go find a free video/audio converter.
To be honest, I use those xvid settings in all my groups and have used them for months, and this is only the 2nd time I’ve heard of a problem (and since it’s not an actual “problem” but just a “what-if”, it doesn’t count). As for K-Lite, I believe it also uses ffdshow, so it should support pretty much whatever CCCP does.

Holy crap! Not this stupid debate again. I don’t know how many people play anime on codec enabled DVD players and I don’t know how many people have DVD palyers w/ codecs. I don’t think that Chihiro should contribute more time in encoding something that only a small group of people will download. I see this as a waste of time, for individual preferences there are converters to do what you wish.
Dude, your watching a fansub on your dvd player that’s hooked up to a television. I download the file and watch it with the Core Media Player. You seem to download it, burn it to a disc, walk over to your dvd player, pop it in, press play. Seriously? Just watch it on the computer already.
Cyber1, we don’t care what the fans want in terms of playback. If it’s something written in the FAQ, it’s not to be questioned. We will only support CCCP. Anything beyond that, you’re on your own.
You don’t need a “recent” computer to play H.264 Cyber1. It doesn’t take that much power to play.

What I watch XviD/DVDs on is TV/DVD combo with USB ports, and films/anime are on USB stick (if you want details so much. What matters is that’s standalone XviD-capable device, nothing more). Also, don’t tell me what should I do, and I won’t tell you where you should go.
Soichiro, there’s always room to grow. I’ve suggested you the direction, now it’s up to you. Another hint: virtual machines are handy for various compatibility tests.

Silent Xenocide, less generalizations, please. I’m pretty sure 720p H.264 won’t run on 3-4 y/o Pentium 4 (let alone 1080p). And in such cases people simply won’t DL such release and group’s popularity suffers.

I’m able to run H.264 on my 4 yr old laptop with a Pentium M 1.6 GHz proc. Virtual machines can’t imitate hardware specs so you are limited as to what you can do.
Ok, so you want to be able to watch anime with better quality than XviD on your TV, then what about the other person who also ask Chihiro to encode so that he/she can play on their PSP? Or on their mobile phone? Or on their Ipod and Zune? What then? Just use a converter since it’s probably much more quicker than downloading an episode.

Yeah man, Chihiro’s doing all the hard work getting the releases for us mortals and here you’re complaining. I have no problems playing their releases on my 5 year old PC (256mb ram….sad) You want to watch on your TV, or whatever device, CONVERT IT YOURSELF. Don’t create extra work for Kristen just to satisfy a niche portion of us leeches.

720p runs on my 6 year old pentium 4 with video/audio lag, but it is nothing that makes it unwatchable. I just click on the scrollbar whenever it gets out of synch (Every 5 minutes or so)
However, the point is that our h.264 release isn’t supposed to be viewable to everyone. It’s supposed to be viewable to the people with a good enough computer who properly configured how to do it. Don’t like it? Then download the XviD.
