It is quite possibly my favorite series… Even after seeing it multiple times, there are still some scenes which make me cringe… It deserves being classified as horror, especially when everything starts out so innocently….

Japanese lesson time from yours truely!
The Japanese title of the anime is Higurashi no Naku Koro ni, the Na of Naku colored red. Higurashi is a type of cicada, but I guess few people know that… or what a cicada is…. so they translated it as When they Cry, with the C of Cry colored red. Apparently Americans are stewpud and don’t like new words.
Interestingly, in both Japanese and English the word ‘cry’ has two meanings. Naku can mean cry as in tears, or cry as in animal call. If you watch the show you can see this is very relevant.
Long story short, it should have been called When Cicadas Cry for the english release.
@Acekiller: If you haven’t watched Higurashi, just go kill yourself man, it’s the least you can do to somehow redeem your ignorance lol! (as an anime-viewer I mean…)
