Here’s a batch of the prelude to K-On S2, K-On goes to war. Whole bunch of notes.
1. All files have been tweaked to match things learned later, such as Filicia is spelled Filicia and not Felicia. Also, any mistakes have been fixed.
2. Episodes 1 and 2 have been re-encoded and remuxed onto Blu-Ray with AAC audio.
3. Yes, we will do the Blu-Rays. They should come at a fairly consistent pace if they are still uploaded, as we do not have to do any more script modifications.
3a. We will do the Blu-Ray only episodes too.
4. Scripts can be found here. We will not do patches since that’s a bit of effort on our part, but at least you can remux yourself if you’d rather not download 5 GB.
5. Nazo made a PDF of notes for the series, which can be found here (V2, with a couple of slightly better screenshots and fixing a gaffe on my part).
Enjoy!
720p: It’s over, isn’t it?
480p: ;_;
Yeah, it’s over. Fuck.
He, did you rename all the eps ? I wanted to download only the redone eps, but it seems it still wants to download all other eps too. I don’t need them twice. Nothing I cannot fix, but still, was curious.
Yeah, guess the checksum changed, so the filename changed as well 🙁
You could probably fix this a little by renaming each and every episode yourself, but the question is “how much of the episodes hasn’t changed?”. If it’s just another script, the episodes should be fairly the same (== less stuff to redownload), but recodes mean a whole new download.
That’s why I’m asking. If they are ALL redone, I just re-download them all. If it’s just a code name change, then not. Currently I just deselected all eps except 1, 2 and 12.
But an answer would be nice.
Now that this K-on 2 is done, any plans on doing the actual second season of K-on if and when it’s available???
In terms of encoding, only 1-2 were re-encoded. The rest are script changes, which you can get by getting the uploaded scripts in the post… I thought the post pretty much said this >_<
Mediafire links pl0x~ MegaUpload banned Hong Kong~
Only when you return to the staff. >.<
oh what? episode 11 was the last episode?
end on a cliffhanging gunshot?
Code Geass anyone?
No, 12 was. The torrent has episode 12 too.
Should I wait for the blue rays? xD
yeah.
any reason why episode 9 is over 600mb? All the other episodes are under 450mb, some much lower.
It’s the rain. Literally… the rain.
More specifically, the encode was done using crf or something which returns a constant quality as opposed to constant bitrate. For most things this shouldn’t be an issue, but when there’s a huge amount of detail, like rain, it doesn’t compress very well. The OP also doesn’t compress very well apparently. Kristen mentioned almost every week that the estimated file size was about 1.5 gigs when it was working on the OP >_>
So… um… I’m not quite clear on the scripts thing. Are the scripts in the batch files updated or not? If not, that means we have to download the .rar archive of the .ass files, right? How do we “remux”?
You’d need MKVToolnix. You can get it here:
http://www.bunkus.org/videotools/mkvtoolnix/
BSSubs.net has a nice tuturial on their site on how to use it:
http://bssubs.net/mkv_tutorial/
So when do you release the batch of k-on not going to war…?
The stated “few days” has become over 2 months
http://www.chihiro-subs.com/2010/01/22/k-on-14-released/
So… is there no torrent for just ep 12 for those that don’t want to reDL the other 11 eps again?
Use a client that lets you choose which file to download?
Or they could do what every other fansub group does and release the final ep on it’s own and ‘then’ do a batch. But whatever, DL is almost done.
so are the batch files already “updated” with the new scripts, or no?
The batch files have been updated of course. The scripts are for those who don’t want to redownload everything.
Yay~ I like reading translators’ notes, you guys should make a pdf for every episode release.
This show had a lot of clashing aesthetics. There was the language and nationality confusion as stated but also technology. Why do the cities of the future resemble rural 20th century European towns? Why do they signal each other with trumpets, when they are sitting in a tank that has a sophisticated computer interface? I can has radio plz?
Those curiosities aside, I hope they make another season. The animation was very well done.
@Ren
Well they are also using bolt action rifles (at least I’m assuming they always only fire once…by that principle they could’ve been muskets but I doubt it). And the setting is supposed to be some sort of post-apocalyptic world. I don’t think they would have the capabilities to build advanced cities. They talked a lot about reviving old technology so maybe they haven’t reinvented the radio yet? But then again, they have telephones….
Spoilers follow, don’t read if you don’t want to know.
The series takes place in a distopian future where mankind battled against something resembling a dragon. In-context they call it a demon/angel depending on which side is talking. Supposedly it was after judgment was passed on mankind for their foolish ways.
Now, mankind had perfected nuclear technology to the scale that allowed battle tanks to carry a small reactor, be legged, and safely house the crew using a gravity nullification system (one would assume it also contained inertial dampening, as well). This allowed it to move up the sides of things and in ways no other vehicle could. It was the pinnacle of technology when the angel arrived.
Mankind was more or less kicked to the stone-age. Aside from a few basic plans, and an idea of what happened before (walker tanks being a huge holdover, though the dumbed-down versions were more or less WW2 tanks on legs), mankind is believed to have lost most knowledge and education is limited severely.
Master craftsmen reappear. People with amazing skills for things, though they’re still unable to do things along the lines of what society was capable of before (the glassworks being unable to properly remake the lenses for the optical targeting in Take-kun without the help of a perfect-pitch girl).
All this boils down (in the mind of Japan) to life in rural Europe, circa 1930/40 (plus some much bigger guns). Aside from the typical Japanese fetish for WW2 flavored everything, the girls had limited supplies. The reason the M-1 Garand remains such an icon is due to its ability to be produced easily, relative accuracy, and likelihood to survive Armageddon. That’s my opinion, anyway. And the Japanese fetish for the guns that beat them.
While Take-kun and telephones worked fine for comms, the reason for bugles was because the tech for radios had been lost. They communicated thusly, and even when the girls used Take-kun, the other armies had no way of receiving the transmission.
In all, it really points out the sort of differences between the lost high-technology and the common tech of the day. IMO, Noel likely ALWAYS ran around with that giant MG42 (I believe it was), but only because she’d restored it and likely pressed her own ammo for it too 😛 Thus why they could press in blanks. We never really saw this or any facility which could’ve done this, but using, shaping, and even reusing brass really isn’t all that difficult.
… at least, those are my opinions based on analysis of the plot and elements of literature that likely went into it =D
Thanks for the scrtpts, remux is not a problem, keep up the great work guys =)
Did the K-ON! specials #6 and #7 ever get finished? If so, then could someone please point me in the right direction to find them? I found a comment from January that mentions that they were being worked on, but nothing after that. I’d certainly love to complete my K-ON! collection all from Chihiro — you guys do great work, and we fans appreciate it. (And it would be nice to have them before K-ON!! starts here soon.) Thank you for all of your hard work.
(And in case somebody might be upset that I’m asking about K-ON! in the Sora no Woto section — that was a great series as well.)
Hi, well done blog. Want to get cash for blogging? Check out: http://bit.ly/PaidWriting
Now with Soro no Woto finished. I was wondering if you have gotten a hold of 7.5 from the BD. I would really like to see you guys sub it.
I have to say that for the past couple of hours i have been hooked by the impressive articles on this website. Keep up the wonderful work.
