Well, I guess we don’t have any subbing to do for 3 hours, so that’s pretty nice. (Bund 7-12 Hayate 25 will be late May and June, FYI). This week coming up is going to be a bit hectic, though, due to finals.

Are the 1080 version going to be in 1440×1080 format now instead of the standard 1920×1080 format?
Weird how the tv broadcasting stations suddenly switched to this 1440×1080 format when it used to do 1080i (still 1920x1080i format)!
AND the 1440×1080 format is also also done with some European shows as well!!
Even modifying the ration to 16:9, it’s still 1440×1080 but stretched out!
Frustrating!
the 1440×1080 thing got answered in a newspost a while back.
it’s anamorphic 1440×1080, so yes it gets stretched to 16:9, but this is how TBS broadcast it, so there’s no quality loss, and it saves bitrate and filesize 🙂
(it would actually be pointless to encode it at 1920×1080, since the extra pixels weren’t broadcast, so not all that frustrating 🙂 )
I guess future 1080p from Chihiro will be based on the source format (e.g. Blu-rays will always be 1920×1080, unless they’re fail JC Staff Blu-rays in which case they’ll be 1280×720)

not taking sides on codec packs, but MPC > WMP everytime. Also EP/OD worked fine for me, on 1080p 😛

Does K-Lite have support for ordered chapters? I dunno, never used it. If it does (Haali?), make sure you enable it.
Downloaded both 1080p and 720p. OP and ED didn’t connect on 720p while it did connect on 1080p. Episodes 1 to 4 720p connects with the OP and ED.
Sorry guys. There’s been an error on our part for the 720p. Expect a v2 to fix the problem.

@Southrop K-lite uses Haali for Matroska splitting, so yes ordered chapters are fine if the player likes them. MPC + k-lite should have no probs ^^

Translation error near the start (00:35), Yui’s first mail to Ui. The reason Azusa is sighing there is because Yui actually wrote “we’re on Mount Fuji right now and can see the bullet train.” If you’re doing a v2 to fix the encode, you should fix that line as well. 😛

I think this is a script error on their part. They couldn’t have gone to Mount Fuji… Think about it. There isn’t even a scene where they are wearing snow gear and climbing the mountain. Also, the timing of this episode runs at the same time as the last episode. So basically, they are on the bullet train (like the last episode) and can see Mount Fuji. That is how I see it. Also, the picture proves my point. Or they’d take a picture of the bullet train on the mountain instead of posting a picture of Mount Fuji. Also, how do you take a picture of Mount Fuji if you’re on it?The script says, “Ima fujisan no naka, shinkansen ga mieru.”If you’re on a mountain, you don’t say you’re inside the mountain (fujisan no naka).
So my assumption is that they made a mistake in the script. It should be “Ima shinkansen no naka, fujisan ga mieru.”
EDIT: Okay.. nvm… I see the point there. It was Yui who made the stupid mistake. But that sigh from Azusa doesn’t seem to be because of the mistake though.

Setosun: It’s that Yui is so excited about seeing Mt. Fuji, she makes a mistake in the e-mail and switches Mt. Fuji and Shinkansen.
Correct: 今、新幹線の中、富士山が見える。(Now I can see Mt. Fuji from the Shinkansen.)
What Yui wrote: 今、富士山の中、新幹線が見える。 (Now I can see a Shinkansen inside Mt. Fuji.)
Also the labeling on the note in the classroom is wrong. The tab says 引け which means pull, not light. 光, which does mean light, appears on the forehead of the part that’s pulled out.

Hey, a PS3 is fine too. I just don’t have one.
But I crank up the bit rate to the max, so if there is a loss in quality, I don’t even notice. Plus, conversion time isn’t an issue if you do it while you’re asleep, work, etc.
The only drawback is having to own a 360/PS3.

PC RULES
There’s a very good software called mkv2vob that converts the mkvs to ps3 format and you can watch them on your PS3.
720p does not connect to the OP/ED like the rest of the episodes 🙁

For those impatiently waiting for a 720p v2, here’s a quick fix.
Download the 480p ED and either the 1080p or 480p OP. These files get linked by the 720p for some reason ( don’t understand why either OP works but just the 480p ED.)
This works for me, YMMV

on mac os 10.6.3, using latest VLC and mPlayer OSX 1.0
past few episodes i’ve been experiencing a problem where the episodes play for the first 3-5 minutes and then just keeps restarting from the beginning? Sometimes if I manually fast forward it will play past the point of restarting but most of the time it just restarts regardless. Codec problem?

Please refer to the FAQ and Playback Help pages. Ordered Chapters and VLC don’t mix. Hell, VLC doesn’t mix well with anything. Don’t use it.
Works well for streaming.
