So, can somebody explain to me why this show is considered bad?

Shiki’s “Hysteria Savant Syndrome” was known as Nanaya Shiki, and activates when his life is in danger; in this mode, he becomes “smooth, confident and highly dismissive of live”, and gains enhanced strength, speed, speed and combat skill. There’s nothing “manning up” about your split personality coming out and you actually losing control of your body and not even remembering what you do because your life is in danger; sure, it’s more manly than doing the same thing when you develop a little wood, but at least it feels like he’s got balls, compared to Kinji.
Watched a few more episodes to see if it got any better and was dispointed (well only a little). The episode aboard the plane was truely facepalm inducing. The butei killer is the decendent of Lupin who for no other reason other than living up to her ancestor’s legacy she goes around murdering people? Kinji had every oportunity to arrest or shoot her in the face but he just ran away! The no kill policy for Butei is equally dumbfounding. I mean, these are kids who are trained in using automatic weapons, sniper rifles, pistols, swords and combat knives and they aren’t allowed to kill? Is it any surprise when they say “You’re under arrest!” and the villain responds “DO IT FAGGOT :D”?
@Ren
I can understand why they instigate a “No Killing” policy, at least in terms of novelization. It makes characters more sympathetic because they follow the rules and don’t kill people, while the villains break the rules and do so. On the other hand, it’s also nonsensical, so rather than creating sympathy, it makes people think, “Really? You’re in a life-or-death situation, and you won’t kill the person trying to kill you? Are you stupid, or just really dense?”
@TheThing
If you consider taking apart more than half of the show’s plot, characters, sound, and development “nitpicking” then sure, your argument holds water.
But honestly speaking, I consider nitpicking on a much small scale.
@Ren
Thank goodness for understanding people like you. I honestly agree. I facepalm’d all day.
One last point I would like to add is the emphasis on teamwork and friendship. “Butei rule number whatever, always depend on and trust your friends!” Is uttered in quite a few episodes but I have to wonder why. Kinji seems shocked when his classmates offer to help him in dangerous situations as if that’s something they would never do. The aesop may have been more meaningful if school policy stressed cold pragmatism and individualism and but people help him outside the call the duty regardless. I mean, if a friend defended you from criticism would it warrant a “Always trust your friends to help you!!” speach? No, because that’s what you generally expect from friends.
Then there is the drama surrounding Aria. “Wah, you said you hated me! I guess I will be alone forever!” You’re not a tragic monster, Aria. The reason no one likes you may have to do with being a manipulative shrew who calls others her slave. Her relationship with Kinji starts with her forcing him to work with her and afterwords she emotionally blackmails him to stay. So why does Kinji like her? Pity? Because he has another girl who adores him, is pretty, and doesn’t have any major personaility problems besides jealously, which would go away along with Aria if only the anime was called Hidan no Kinji.
Basically it all boils down to bad writing. I never read the original material, but if it was any good (which I doubt), then they messed up when they rewrote it for animation.
I feel there is so much backstory but they dont spend enough time telling it, instead going for a lot of humor/romance/action from the start. As a result, the viewer doesnt connect with the characters and the humor/romance is wasted too. Every episode they introduce something new and it feels unnatural and contrived. Oh and the action scenes are terrible. Whats with the terrible CG?
So in the end, the whole world does not make sense. It is fiction, but even fiction has to have pieces that somehow “fit” in that world. Even Dog Days make more sense than this generic Rie anime.
If you think this show is any good, I suggest you watch more anime/movies or read more books. The story is bad, scriptwriting is bad, direction is bad, and the animation is bad.
BTW, to everyone who’s saying “the light novel is better and the anime made it worse” is the poorest and saddest excuse you can use. Honestly speaking, we’re saying the anime is bad. Saying the Light Novel, manga, or visual novel is better is a poor excuse since we don’t care about the source. “The anime is bad” is a statement that stands by itself and not with its source material.
@Azure_Shockwave Agreed, an adaption should stand on it’s own. It might not have the source materials’ depth but it should be enjoyable without reading aditional sources. I think all that comparrison between different adaptions was just a ‘how we got here’ explanation rather than a valid defense for it.
watch it or not. nothing will happen even if you say that this show is “bad”.
They obviously don’t like lolis.
@bleh True say
@Ren:
Hahahaha, you know, now that you mention it, you are right, all that drama of friends helping friends, I never really noticed it before xD
Gotta say you are pretty much spot on, on that one. In fact, now that I count, there is a suprisingly great deal of anime where the characters like freeze in suprise because their friends are helping them.
Also, I completely agree with the “source material is better” being complete and utter crap.
somebody should do a RIKO HENTAI or a RIKO anime. Of all the girls RIKO is the best
For ppls wanting to watch MKV on xbox or PS3 this does the job http://code.google.com/p/ps3mediaserver/downloads/detail?name=pms-setup-windows-1.23.0.exe&can=2&q= 😀
I feel slightly horny after watching Hidan no Aria sometimes. The ecchi level is unusual for a J.C.Staff show…
this is just not interesting enough
