Goblin Slayer – 01

Confident Onna Shinkan [Priestess]
Your Lass Slayer’s here! I Just Gotta Have ‘Em All!
I’m back from retire– I mean back to fansubing ongoing anime. I didn’t want to do it for the record.
Why so late, you might ask? Well, we got various reasons for it but I think we could fix them if you give us some time.

We are using Wakanim as source for the video and audio!

Awesome! Perfect anime reminiscent of anime’s golden age. Thank you for the great work.

Can you add honorifics please? So far all the subs for this show were garbage and it’s a godly show. =(

    • Well, if there’s a demand we could add a second track with honorifics.

    • The_Pretender

Since Chihiro was founded, there were certain rules set, one of which is that we would use honorifics only if the story is within Japan. If it is not, we would not add them.

      • potato

        =(
Shouldn’t it be if it’s in the audio then add them otherwise don’t? What happens to that rule if the story setting changes halfway through?

        • There are exceptions to that rule. For example Japanese characters can have honorifics in their dialogues because that’s a trait of their culture, even the setting takes place outside Japan like in Europe or USA.

would you translate one-sama to my lady?

    • The_Pretender

It is onee[γŠε§‰] which means older sister. Sama[様] honorofic means that the person spoken to/about is respected in general. In this anime the MC has a sister, so we would use older sister. Does this answer your question?

    • BeerWench

Personally, I’m no fan of Japanese honorifics showing up in subs. Yes, we can hear that word, and the hundreds of thousands of other words, too. To me, it breaks reading speed, like a pothole on an otherwise smooth road. And yes, to answer your question, I would expect a translation regarding a high standing female to be something like Milady or Millourt (for the masculine version).

ty for your serious answer i dint meant to take your time, i appreciate this fansub group work. i was commenting on “Since Chihiro was founded, there were certain rules set, one of which is that we would use honorifics only if the story is within Japan. If it is not, we would not add them.” because the index series isnt always on japan and Kuroko Shirai always calls Misaka Mikoto as onee-sama and other stuff its used like biribiri i was curious and kinda memeing on other fansub release about that anime.

    • The_Pretender

It is a bit tricky, the way I put it. But I kinda knew you were talking about Index. One way to understand where we would not use honorofics is when the story is in imaginary world where Japan does not exist, but is taking place in countries, kingdoms and etc. Also, those anime which are set in Japan tend to stay there by default, so hence I was using within.

For Goblin Slayer is alternative/imaginary world where Japan does not exist, but there are kingdoms of man, elves, dwarves and etc. so we would not use honorofics.

Have you decided to drop your current stalled projects to pursue this one?
It seems likely that this is the case since you have added a new project when you are not able to handle your existing projects.
Since you are easily distracted by shiny new things, you might want to obtain a prescription for Ritalin or Adderall to help you stay on task.

    • BeerWench

So what if they have? You want those projects done, then go do them or keep your farts, sorry thoughts, to yourself. You are benefiting from their hobby which they are free to pick up or drop at will, get it? Now I’m sure you’re going to be clever and throw all kinds of “but they promised” or any of the other nonsense useless civilians (sorry NPCs) like crying about. It’s only cute when a two year old does it, and still only to their parents; and even they should slap them for it.

    • No, we haven’t dropped them. We recruited who are gonna be exclusively in charge of those.

    • JT

I apologize for the tone of the preceding message. When I wrote it, I was irritated by something unrelated & took it out on you.
I still wish that you would attend to your backlogged projects, but I should be polite when I nag you about them.

      • It’s okay. We aren’t angry. ^_^

      • The_Pretender

I’m angry about it. Do you know how much frustrating is to wait for staff member to reply back or do anything in the scheduled time? Do you know that some of the stalled things are thanks to a guy who is now MIA? Do you know what is the feeling to put your shit together did everything and then one year later is not released? I spoke with Lenmaer and said that I could release every Monday this anime, can encode CR roughly, just need a timer to shift, but was refused because staff members wanted to do an ongoing shows. In all fansubing I did I never ever encountered staff members to do their stuff at the same time every damn week, some even delayed with weeks and months. For you might sound like nothing, but it is big deal and frustrating to the others who wanted to have the episode released. Do you know how moronic sounds to haven’t seen or idk e-mail for more than a week/month? Or have to do something for a week, but mentions it after is done and we don’t know a thing in the meantime. Me and Lenmaer had to deal with a lot of it. You can ask Lenmaer how dedicated I’m to what I do in this group and how seriously I take things.

        • Rokudaime

That sounds rough. This is just my humble opinion, but if some of your fellow staff members are causing you and Lenmaer that much headache, and delaying stuff for that long when you have finished your part ages ago, then maybe you should consider letting them go, and hiring new members. If I was the group leader, I would honestly be pissed at that kind of stuff, unless they had good reasons/excuses for the ongoing delays. Just my two cents.

          • It’s not that easy. You can’t “fire” anybody when they aren’t paid. Fansubbing is basically volunteer work, but the people can just disappear and never show up again at any moment. Most people in a fansub group have probably experienced this.

It’s doubly frustrating because you know that they have their own lives to attend to and you can’t ask for more. I wish people would be more honest about what they’re willing to actually do, but that’s rare. Staff just log off never to be seen again, and you never find out why. Maybe they were just burned out, maybe they died in an accident, who knows?

We (Harunatsu, not Chihiro) have a TL that still sits in our server and comes online, but never responds. I just don’t get it. At least leave the server>.>

            • Rokudaime

As a group leader you can still take people off the group if you want, and look for other people out there who are willing to help, if a member is not contributing the way you want them to. And imo while you can’t ask them to do more than they have time to, you CAN ask them to be upfront and honest about the time they have available, and if they consistently never follow what they claimed they could do, and even disappear all the time without giving any reason or explanation, causing huge delays, well, imo you can and should kick them off the team. That’s how I see it.

      • BeerWench

Not a staff member here, just a fan. I greatly enjoy this place, not to mention the anime subbed here thus I replied harshly. Thanks for having a sophisticated point of view. Totally understand about having RL (or events therein on a more general scale; news) causing irritation or frustrations. Stop by the Chatbox if you feel like ranting, I find it greatly helps or is at least fun.

  • Nabilsama

Arigatoooooooooou. good to see Anime in the old way
