As many of you know, I’ve worked on several projects with Chihiro over the past 16 months. However, I currently find myself at a difficult and desperate point. I currently owe my university $2127 for this semester, and if I don’t pay it off by November 20th, I won’t be able to register for classes for next semester. I’ve maxed out my government financial aid, I’ve spent all the money in my bank account toward tuition, I can’t get any private loans because of my family’s terrible credit history, and my parents can’t help me because they don’t have any money to spare after paying their bills. So, as a last-ditch effort, I’m asking you, the loyal (and not-so-loyal) supporters of Chihiro, to help me in my hour of need. Every little bit that you can chip in would help. November 20 is the class registration date for next semester. I can technically get the money in after that (as long as it’s before next semester starts), but I might not be able to take some of the classes I need next semester if they fill up. (The way they did it was by placing a hold on my account, so I can’t register for next semester’s classes until I pay off this semester.)
Also, I’ll make some sort of graph/chart/thing to show the progress and post the link when it’s ready.
Sorry to hear about your troubles. I’m broke as joke myself so I can’t chip in but I hope it all works out for you. $2127.00 in the next ten days is a pretty ambitious goal, though. The FA office can’t work something out with you like a payment plan or work exchange?
I’ve been to the financial aid office, and all they had to suggest was the standard stuff, fill out FAFSA (did that a long time ago), apply for goverment loans (did it), look for scholarships (applied for a bunch, didn’t get accepted for any), get an on-campus job (which I did, but it’s part-time and minimum wage, so it only helps so much), and apply for private loans (all of which I got rejected from). I’m actually lucky because I’m already on a payment plan type of system. If I wasn’t, I would’ve had to have it paid in full 3 months ago. I did go down there again today to try to talk to them, but they just had me schedule an appointment for tomorrow morning. I guess that’s what happens in a bureaucratic system… -_-;
What about Alumni associations? Maybe one of them has an assistance program that can help. Another thing to check out may be your states DoE. Also, check with local credit unions in addition to the banks. If your grades are high and you’re in good with the profs, maybe one of them will be willing to help plead your case to FA.

here’s an idea as well. i know its not good under short time frames but check this site out. http://www.collegeanswer.com its a scholarship search engine. i know you said you search and applied but this site will give you a lot more results. also come time for next term. get your FAFSA done ASAP. some schools have priority deadlines. there is federal aid that is first come first serve bases. also, does your FAFSA classify you as dependant or independant. if your dependant, have your parents fill out a parent plus loan. doesn’t matter if they are approved or not. if approved that can cover you for the rest of the school and it can be setup to where payments are postponed after you graduate period (even if you go to grad school). if denied, the school can give you additional stafford loans. the amount depends on your grade level.
I hate to play the heartless bastard (and I really do because I love Chihiro) but even if we were to believe your story, for which we have ample reason to doubt, do you really think you could generate over 2k from the community in just 10 days? The server donation goal which is just 150ish dollars is generated over a whole month.
I sympathize for your situation, being a poor college student myself, but you are asking for a miracle. I’d feel more inclined to donate if you could provide some proof.

My advice, get a job. I’m working 40hours per week to pay off my tuition. All your money your getting for free, even now. All that gov aid is from my tax dollars that I’m working my butt off to earn. Lol, this is the times when I really feel it is good to be Norwegian. We get our College education for free(in terms of money, not effort. Duh). The Government pays the cost for the education itself for us. ^^ Offcourse, alot of students still have to get a student loan in order to pay for living expenses and such if they don’t live at home, but you know what? The Government ALSO turns up to 40% of this loan into money we don’t have to pay back, if we pass exams. Kind of like an award for our effots, since they want us to get educated, for the sake of the country I guess. So yeah, it’s nice to not have to pay hundreds of thousands just to get an education. ^^ But I feel for you dude, though at the rate this is going, it looks like you won’t have much trouble getting the money you need through the donations. As someone allready said, more than half is there allready, after only 1 day. ;D

Chihiro fans are surprisingly generous, considering you’d think they’d all be poor otaku (lol). It usually only takes about 2 days to reach our monthly server donation goal.
And I do have a job, but it’s only 20 hours a week (the uni has restrictions that say I can’t work any more than that during classes) and minimum wage. Not a whole lot of money. 🙁 Though in this economy I’m lucky to have any job, I suppose.

Auch. I’m currently living in Japan as an exchange student and I couldn’t have come here if my grandfather hadn’t coughed up something like 4k+ euro’s to get me here… and that wasn’t even the full price…
For 2000 dollars you can move to belgium, become a belgian citizen, get your 3 to 5 year education for as good as free (if europe passes that pretty education bill it will be absolutely free) and your living expenses won’t change for a bit.
And the best news is as far as I know Belgian degrees count as much in America as they do in Belgium.
Think of all the chocolate and waffles you could be eating in stead of working your ass off to be able to study like a maniac 😛

Right now I’m taking a social psych course (PSYCH 316) plus a bunch of core curriculum courses (English, math, history). It’s only my first semester, so I really haven’t gotten into my major courses yet (my major being psychology).
Unfortunately, I’m a bit tight for cash as well. *no job*. If i had one, i’d donate. It would probably help if you posted a copy of a bill to show you need the money.

$2000 at, say, $10/hour is barely a few months of part time work. I’ve not been following Chihiro too much, but if it was a paid job, I bet it would be hard to stay an active member and NOT earn at least as much by now.
So it’s really not that outrageous of a request, and there’s probably a better chance of the money being used properly than some random local save-the-dying-kittens charity.
I’m finding this pretty funny, and heck, if I could I’d probably donate some, but I’m quite broke actually, so that’s a no-go : D….

I’m a first semester too. Here in Germany the fees are “only” about 500 Euros per semester. And ppl were protesting a lot when those were first introduced. And there are still political parties trying to abolish those…
A good way of earning money is tutoring highschoolers or so. I just started a week ago and I get 15 Euros/hour! I’m only working 4 hours a week though.

Get a job! If you can’t afford school on your own, you don’t go – period. Take time off from school to work off your bills. And if you can’t afford to go to school full time, go part time.
