The 1080p release is encoded at 1440×1080, which is the resolution the TV station broadcast it at. It is anamorphic, so on playback, it automatically resizes to the proper widescreen resolution. This helps to save bitrate (meaning smaller releases) and doesn’t hurt quality, since the broadcast is encoded in the same way. |
